Please park on Curtis Lane near the basketball hoop when you arrive and walk up to the pool area!

Swim Lesson Fun!

Welcome to Swim Lessons with April. I started off as a lifeguard for the town of Monroe in 1996. From there I became a swim instructor in 1997 and head lifeguard a few years later. I then became the Aquatic Supervisor for the town for about 10 more wonderful years. I am highly trained and a very energetic aquatic educator!

I have been teaching swimming lessons for almost 30 years. I have taught thousands of kids ranging from ages 9 months through adulthood. I teach parent and tot classes for children ages 0-3 as well during spring/summer!

I have experience teaching students with special needs. I have taught students with autism, ADD, ADHD, etc. I have also taught first grade for 14 years, second grade for 2 years, and have three children of my own who keep me on my toes!

Group Lessons

Group lessons consist of 4 consecutive classes that run Monday through Thursday.

Please note: we require 2 week's notice for group lesson cancellations.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are single, intensive, one-on-one classes are available daily.

Please note: we require 30 hours notice for private lesson cancellations.

30 Minute Private / Semi-Private Lessons

Welcome to Swim Lessons with April. This is a half hour class and does not repeat. These can be a private or semi private lesson. Private lessons are $65 for 1 person or Semi Privates are $80 in total for 2 or more.

60 Minute Group Course

THESE ARE OFFERED JUNE, JULY, & AUGUST. This one (1) hour class is for four (4) days a week, starting Monday going through Thursday. You will be asked to book on Monday, however these lessons will be held at the same time everyday through Thursday of that week. Fridays will be used as weather related cancellations only, in which I will cancel if thundering or lightning. I will teach in the rain!

Please remember to have your child changed and ready for their swim lesson in order to get the most out of the time they have.

Please have your child use the bathroom before you arrive.

When your child needs extra practice learning a skill, you may think they need the one to one attention, however, small group lessons have many benefits. First, swimmers get to take a quick break in between learning new skills. Secondly, swimmers can learn from watching others. They want to do what the others are doing and try harder in order to succeed and conquer their learning. Lastly, swimmers are having fun and playing games with others, while learning at the same time.

Private Lessons: customized lessons, specific feedback, specific goals

What To Expect

I start off getting my new swimmers comfortable being with me in the pool. We work on blowing bubbles, getting their nose, eyes, and faces wet, playing with pool toys, and going completely underwater. We then move onto learning stroke development. This includes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, and butterfly. We also practice treading water, diving, and diving for rings, and just having fun while getting used to being in the water!

I also teach students to become swim team ready, working on all strokes, flip turns, speed, and comfort.

I will also be teaching water safety instruction, how to stay safe around pools, how to help others if/when needed, and some lifeguard skills.
